Shafiq Ahmed Bhuiyan: Covid-19 was first detected in Bangladesh after the first detection in Europe, America and neighbouring country India and that was started from Wuhan, China. The number of infected people is increasing at a geometric rate, as a consequence of the deadly virus that is spreading across the world and the death toll keeps going up proportionately. The rise in infection and death lead to panic, everyone was terrified of the virus.
Bangladesh Student League(BSL), an ancient student organization in Bangladesh, stood by the affected people just when the relatives did not come to the service of the Covid-19 infected patient and burial of the affected dead body. Bangladesh Student League has provided emergency telemedicine services to prevent the second wave and rise in Covid-19 case.BCL has already launched telemedicine services in all units across the country.
At the same time, they took a service in action named ‘Hello Chhatra League’ which was an ambulance service. BCL keeps these services across the country. The activists of BCL made them engaged in the services of Covid-19 patients, some of them were carrying oxygen cylinders and some of them were engaged in the overall service of the patient. Their all efforts are ongoing. They are alongside of the Doctor and Nurses while their lives are at stake but only for the betterment of patients they engaged themselves in such kind of dangerous service. Earlier, the leaders and workers of BSL extended their hand of cooperation to the people who died with the symptoms of the corona at the peak time of the first wave of Covid-19, to ensure the necessary services for the isolation of the potentials/patients and to help the people who were destitute and helpless amid Covid-19 restrictions.
BSL’s humanitarian team has worked tirelessly in the field to raise awareness on the use of soap and hand sanitiser. The leaders and activists of the organization made them engaged in various humanitarian work since march,2020 (the month of detection of first case of Covid-19 in Bangladesh). By providing directives to the district level unit,BSL engaged them in fieldwork and. This action of BSL was also applauded by Prime-minister Sheikh Hasina. “Can’t but have to say.BSL, our BSL boys, knowing inadequacy of men for cutting paddy, they started to cut paddy for farmers free of cost.”, said by the prime minister in Parliament.
Not only that but also, they formed a committee for the solution of students’ rent house(mess) related crisis which occurs due to the closure of educational institutions, because of Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the government, lead the students to back to home. In an occasion at prime minister’s house, Sheikh Hasina said,” BSL is producing hand sanitiser, according to the University of Dhaka provided formula, they are disbursing these sanitisers to the public who are getting these free of costs. They are also allocating food in various areas.” A directive lead to BSL from the Awami league is to providing food to those who are facing a shortage of food. The running President and General Secretary of BSL are Al-Nahian Khan Joy and Lekhak Bhattacharjee. BSL president Al Nahian Khan Joy said,”
As a student organisation, BCL’s leaders and activists played a proactive role amidst countrywide Covid-19 situation.” Cutting paddy of farmers, disbursing mask & sanitisers and distribution of reliefs to the flood victims. The directives given by the centre are performed accurately by district leaders-activists. We can’t do much because of having duties in the time of special response. In the second wave,” BSL is proactive in food distribution including Telemedicine service, Hellow chhatro league-an ambulance service. It is clear that no other organisation is in service to control the pandemic. So, we need to work regularly and doing so.
