Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday described some human rights bodies’ allegations, including those of Human Rights Watch (HRW), over Bangladesh’s security system as fake, baseless and purpose-oriented.
He made the remarks during a regular press conference on contemporary issues at his official residence here.
Ten rights groups in a joint statement on Saturday raised allegations that law-enforcement and intelligence agencies in Bangladesh are torturing and ill-treating detainees and suspects.
Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, said such allegations are a part of the conspiracy of vested groups.
He said as per the existing law, detainees are interrogated about specific allegations or upon the directives of the court.
Regarding raising random allegations of abduction in different periods, he said such allegations turn out to be fake afterwards, and it has also been proved recently.
