A massive explosion rocked the Moghbazar area in Dhaka on Sunday evening, killing at least seven people and injuring at least 50 others, as well as causing massive damage to the establishments nearby.
The explosion took place near lifestyle retail chain Aarong’s Moghbazar showroom, and the Fire Service was informed at around 7:35pm, Md Babul, station officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, told to the mass media
“Nine units of firefighters have been sent to the spot; they are still working at the scene,” he added.
The cause of the explosion is still unknown.
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ramna police station, told Dhaka Tribune that so far they had confirmed six deaths caused by the explosion.
“We also have information about at least 50 people getting injured in the incident,” he told the media
Most of the injured have been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), fire officials said.
The explosion caused massive damage to the establishments nearby, including the Aarong showroom, said source , who was at the scene.
“It shattered all the glass panels on the building of the Aarong showroom, as well as another building close by, and the shards are all scattered on the road,” he said.
