Seven mild tremors have been felt in different parts of Sylhet since Saturday morning.

The magnitude 3 to 4.1 earthquakes were felt about several minutes apart till 2 pm, with the first one occurring at around 10:10 am.

The first four jolts were felt in short intervals within the period of one hour scaring people out to the street.

Muminul Islam, a senior meteorologist at the Dhaka Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observatory, told Prothom Alo, “We have been confirmed about the quake from Sylhet station. The epicentre of the earthquake was in Sylhet which has a maximum magnitude 4.1 on the Richter scale.

No casualties or damage has been reported.

According to Indian National Center for Seismology, the first quake was recorded at 10:06 am with its epicenter at 48 –kilometer ESE of Cherrapunjee in India’s Meghalaya.
