The Grand Imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar, Ahmed El-Tayyeb, yesterday denounced what he described as the “world’s disgraceful silence towards brutal Zionist terrorism and violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinians.”
“The world remains disgracefully silent towards callous Zionist terrorism and the violations committed against Al-Aqsa Mosque and our brothers in Palestine,” Al-Tayyeb said on Twitter.
He stressed that Palestine would “forever remain steadfast,” adding that the Palestinian people would continue their “struggle to defend their land, honour and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the first Qibla and the third holiest site in Islam.”
“I humbly salute these oppressed people [Palestinians],” Al-Tayyeb added. “O Allah the Most Merciful, grant the oppressed people of Palestine victory and envelop them with your protection and care,” he said.
Since the beginning of Ramadan, Jerusalem’s Bab Al-Amud (Damascus Gate) and Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhoods, as well as the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, have been witnessing attacks by the Israeli occupation forces. Hundred of Palestinians have been wounded in the assaults, which included attacks at worshippers completing the nightly Ramadan prayers in Al-Aqsa Mosque.
