Noted singer Mita Haque dies of Covid-19

Dhaka::Ekushey Padak-winning Rabindra Sangeet singer Mita Haque has died of Covid-19 early today. She was 59.

She breathed her last at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in the capital at 6:20 am.

Her son-in-law Mostafiz Shahin confirmed the matter in a Facebook post.

Mita Haque was suffering from kidney-related diseases. She tested positive with Covid-19 on 31 March.

She was rushed to the hospital when her physical condition deteriorated on Saturday. She was kept on ventilator support, where she died today morning.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep grief over the death of Ekushey Padak-winning Rabindra Sangeet singer Mita Haque. They expressed their condolences in separate messages on Sunday.

In a condolence message, the President said people will remember in respect her efforts in bringing the ethos of Rabindranath and his music to the common people of Bangladesh.

The President and the Premier prayed for the forgiveness of the soul of the deceased and conveyed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.

Jatiya Party Chairman and Deputy Leader of the Opposition GM Quader also expressed deep grief over the death of the country’s one of the best musician.

Mita Haque was born in 1962. She was listed as the highest grade artist of the Bangladesh Betar. She also served as the head of the Rabindra Sangeet Department at Chhayanaut Sangeet Bidyayatan in Dhaka. She had 14 solo musical albums released from India and 10 musical albums released in Bangladesh.

She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2020 for her contributions to music.
